The surface effect on this piece was created with a technique called enamelling. Enamel is a powdered glass which fuses to metal when fired at temperatures around 815°C.
When heated, the powder flows and hardens, becoming a smooth and vitreous surface. Enamel is very durable. However, if handled roughly or exposed to chemical cleaners it may crack or become dull.
Therefore, please clean this piece with only a polishing cloth and handle with care.

Each one of my jewellery pieces is handmade. Due to the wonderful nature of hand-crafted items they are not all the exact same, in contrast to machine-fabricated jewellery.
This means that sometimes the picture seen on my website will not look precisely the same as the piece you receive in the mail. This is especially true of enamelled pieces. The enamelling process is fascinating and unpredictable (the colouring will always turn out different from piece to piece).
Most of my customers treasure this unique feature and enjoy the idea of owning a special item carefully produced by a craftsperson.

☂ The umbrella may seem like a fairly self-explanatory form - only applicable to rainy days. However, when I first came up with the designs for the Raindrop Collection the umbrella represented much more to me than a device to keep you dry when it rains.
Umbrellas act as a shield, protecting you and making it more pleasant to face the world – even when things seem gloomy and ominous. For many people (myself included) stepping outside and confronting the challenges that each day can bring is daunting – sometimes verging on debilitating. Many face tough circumstances, whether mental or physical - sometimes even the simplest tasks can quickly become overwhelming. Everyone has the right to feel safe, and this believe is what inspired me to create this collection.
So, although the umbrella seems like a single purpose item, to me they represent that safe place we all have. A place, whether a physical location or even the company of a certain person, that is comforting - somewhere you can be yourself and feel secure. We cannot always be there, but I think having a piece of jewellery as a reminder of that place, can bring comfort in difficult situations. By wearing your umbrellas, you are carrying a little piece of your ‘safe place’ with you wherever you go.
I have found the pieces in this collection make wonderful gifts because of what they symbolize. By giving someone you care about an umbrella, you are letting them know that they are safe with you, and can rely on you to support them.
This being said, I also realise that I designed adorable little umbrellas in bright and delightful colours – and many appreciate them purely for their aesthetics. I am very okay with this – they are indeed incredibly charming ;)
