Fairtrade yellow gold wire and a selection of ethically sourced gemstones and diamonds

Every piece begins with one question:

Where do the material come from?

I create handmade jewellery in Leipzig using Fairtrade gold and responsibly sourced gemstones — materials chosen for their beauty and their integrity. They allow me to craft meaningful pieces shaped with care and intention.

This commitment guides my work. I refine my craft continually, seeking a clear connection between thoughtful materials and jewellery made to be truly cherished.

Recycled silver as a part of a sustainable jewellery practice

Sustainability informs every part of my jewellery practice.

I create handmade jewellery in Leipzig using Fairtrade gold, recycled silver, and responsibly sourced gemstones. Every offcut is saved for refining, and each piece is hand‑fabricated with care and intention.

My studio is powered by renewable energy, and I regularly review my processes to reduce waste and refine my craft. This is an ongoing commitment - not perfection, but a promise to stay thoughtful, honest, and always improving.

100% Hand‑Fabricated

Every piece begins as raw precious metal - melted down from grain, poured, and shaped by hand in my Leipzig studio. From that first moment, the metal carries intention.

Each mark is a record of touch and time, giving the jewellery its own quiet character.

Fairtrade Gold

Since 2020, I’ve worked exclusively with certified Fairtrade gold sourced through Fairever, a Leipzig‑based supplier of high‑quality, responsibly produced precious metals. Their gold comes from the Fairtrade‑certified MACDESA mine in Peru, supporting transparent sourcing and fair working conditions.

Responsibly Sourced Gemstones

I source all gemstones with care, working only with trusted suppliers who value transparency and fair practices. Each stone is chosen for its beauty, its origin, and the integrity it brings to the piece.

Every gemstone begins a story - selected thoughtfully, shaped by hand, and set with intention.

Carefully Selected Silver

The silver in my studio is chosen with intention - either recycled or responsibly sourced from trusted suppliers who value transparency and integrity. Ethically mined silver is rarely available, so recycled silver remains the most reliable way to work with material whose origin is clear.

Thoughtful Packaging

The boxes I use are made in Germany from 100% recycled paper and can be recycled again after use. Simple and secure, they protect your jewellery with care and leave only a small presence once their purpose is fulfilled.

• FAQ •

Fairtrade yellow gold in its raw form - ready to be melted and formed into a piece of jewellery

Q: Do responsibly sourced metals and gemstones cost more than conventional ones?

A: Often, yes. Materials such as silver, gold, and gemstones from more carefully sourced supply chains can cost more - though the difference is usually smaller than people expect.

The raw material is only one part of the final price. When a piece is crafted by hand, much of its value lies in the work itself: the time, skill, and attention it takes to create something unique. Focusing only on the price of gold or a gemstone overlooks the artistry behind the piece.

Q: Is Fairtrade gold the same quality as conventionally mined gold?

A: Yes. Fairtrade gold has exactly the same quality and purity as conventionally mined gold. The difference lies in its origin: it comes from artisanal and small‑scale mining organisations that meet strict Fairtrade standards for responsible practices.

Q: Where do the responsibly sourced materials you work with come from?

A: I source my materials from a few trusted suppliers:

Fairtrade Gold: My gold comes from Fairever, a Leipzig‑based company specialising in high‑quality, responsibly sourced precious metals. Their Fairtrade‑certified gold is mined by the MACDESA cooperative in Peru.

Silver: Silver is a precious metal, but unlike gold, it is rarely mined on its own - it usually appears as a by‑product of other mining operations. This makes full traceability and Fairtrade certification difficult. That’s why I work primarily with 100% recycled sterling silver and, increasingly, with responsibly sourced silver from trusted suppliers. Both options offer clear, reliable origins and support a more transparent jewellery practice.

Responsibly Sourced Gemstones & Diamonds:

Gemstones are found around the world, each with its own distinct origin. I source mine through a small number of trusted companies that specialise in high‑quality stones with clear, reliable provenance. These suppliers prioritise transparency and consistently provide beautiful gems from well‑documented sources.

The Reality of Gold Mining:  Artisanal and small‑scale mining (ASM) plays a significant role in global gold production and involves millions of miners worldwide. Because these operations are often informal and widely dispersed, regulation and oversight can be extremely challenging. Many miners work under difficult and sometimes unsafe conditions to support their families.

In some ASM communities, children also work due to economic pressures. Mining itself can be hazardous, especially where protective equipment or formal training is limited.

A substantial portion of the gold used globally each year is newly mined, and much of it comes from regions where working conditions vary widely. This is why transparent sourcing standards - such as Fairtrade Gold - are important: they offer clearer, more reliable information about where gold comes from and how it is produced.

Q: What makes Fairtrade Gold different from conventionally mined gold?

A: Fairtrade‑certified gold is produced under strict standards designed to improve working conditions and strengthen transparency in the supply chain. These standards cover areas such as occupational health and safety, chemical management, women’s rights, and the prevention of child labour.

Certified mining organisations receive a guaranteed minimum price for their gold, along with an additional Fairtrade Premium that can be invested in community projects or workplace improvements. Regular independent audits ensure that Fairtrade requirements are met and maintained.

Why I Believe Transparency Matters

It may not be important to everyone, but I believe it’s essential to know something about the person behind a business - especially when that business talks about responsible practices. Terms like “green” or “sustainable” are often used in marketing, and polished campaigns can create an impression that doesn’t always match reality.

This kind of messaging can be frustrating for those who are genuinely committed to responsible sourcing and thoughtful craftsmanship. As mentioned above, transparency is something I value deeply. So I’d like to share a few personal insights to show that my approach to responsible practices isn’t just part of my branding - it reflects what I believe in and how I live.

I’ve been vegetarian for over twelve years and switched to a fully plant‑based diet in January 2020. I buy mostly organic food and love supporting my local organic supermarket. Whenever it works, I choose regional and seasonal produce — and I still treat myself to organic tomatoes in the middle of winter, because I simply love tomatoes.

I try to avoid packaging wherever I can. A new bulk store opened nearby, and it’s helped me reduce the amount of waste I produce quite a bit.

I don’t own a car. I’m lucky to live in a city where I can get around by foot, bike, or public transport.

I buy very little clothing, and when I do, it’s usually organic or second‑hand. I believe clothes should be chosen with longevity in mind — just like the jewellery I create.

Some might think it’s not much, but just like in my studio, I’m always looking for ways to make thoughtful choices and keep improving.

That’s a little about me. If you’d like to learn more about my journey into jewellery‑making, you’ll find it on my ABOUT page.

Thank you for taking a moment to learn about the values behind my jewellery.
